Ayurveda - The Science

According to Ayurveda, life is a combination of senses (indriya), mind (manasa), body (Shareera) and soul (Atma). This means the science not just deals with the body and the physical ailments but also the spiritual, mental and social health. When life does not receive any of these in the right proportion it leads to the evolution of disease.

Put at its simplest, each physical atom consists of the five elements: its weight comes from earth, its cohesion from water, its energy from fire, its motion from air and the space between its particles are made of ether. So the whole human body is composed of the five elements and an excess or lack of one or more elements can be the cause of imbalance and so lead to illness.

Ayurveda scientifically deals with the physical, mental and social constitution of an individual and the depth of disease manifestation in the latter. This determines what is called the Ayurvedic state of the individual.
Depending on this state, the Ayurvedic routine is worked out for the individual. This routine is again uniquely prescribed for each individual depending on their inherent energy combinations.

Each Ayurvedic routine adopted offers detailed recommendations on lifestyle, food habits, exercise (physical and mental), yoga, herbal therapy, spiritual practices etc., to maintain concordant balance between body, mind and environment.

The understanding that are humans are unique enables Ayurveda to address not only specific health concerns but also offers an explanation as to why each person responds differently to change(s) in the nature and environment.

Ayurveda is a qualitative, holistic science of health and longevity, a philosophy and system of healing the whole person, body and mind. It enables healthy living by creating the hope in man on his ability to cure his ailments. The science promotes the thought that all the things in the universe have formed by the combination of three ‘L’s – Life, Light and Love.
